The regulations relevant to this period were those of 1862, which are summarised in this item. The regulations were included as pre-printed pages in the log book.
The Log-book was compiled for the Inspectors of the school to review and it primarily recorded the number of pupils attending, but also recorded noteworthy events by day such as: the subjects taught, visits to the school by church representatives, pupils entering or leaving the school and comments explaining changes to the number of attendees.
