About this objectA Log-book was required to be maintained by the Headmaster of the school in accordance with the regulations governing schools receiving Government grants. The regulations relevant to this period were those of 1862, which are accessible on the internet, and the relevant regulation sections were included at the front of pre-printed Log-book.
The Log-book was compiled for the Inspectors of the school to review and it primarily recorded the number of pupils attending, but also recorded noteworthy events by day such as: the subjects taught, visits to the school by church representatives, pupils entering or leaving the school and comments explaining changes to the number of attendees.
The log book was completed by hand, scanned and those scans have been processed through a OCR application to provide a text version of the file. This catalogue entry includes: the scanned copy of relevant pages of the book, and, the OCR typed version of those scans. Some parts of the scans are very faint and not possible to read. The OCR application may have made errors in reading faint sections. The files are scanned by calendar year and so a school year will be across 2 files.
This is the scan of the first pages of the log book which started in 1869. The initial pages have a type of alphabetic index of key items and the page numbers on which those would be found.
