MUSEUMS

The East Anglian Railway Museum

A working museum, dedicated to preserving the history of railways in the Eastern Counties, our Victorian buildings, restored trains and working signal boxes tell a story of a time when the railway was one of the largest employers in the region

Coggeshall Museum

Coggeshall Museum opened in 1990 in an annex to St. Peter’s Hall (now the Village Hall) in Stoneham Street. The hall itself was formerly one of Coggeshall’s breweries but since the 1920s has been a focus for many of Coggeshall’s community activities. During the Second World War the hall provided a place to relax for the many servicemen of all nationalities who were stationed at the airfields that surrounded this small Essex town. The museum was established in what had been the kitchen which formerly provided meals for the nearby primary school.

Braintree Museum

Based in the former Manor Street School building since 1993, the Museum conserves and celebrates the history of Braintree and its surrounding areas, focusing on the District’s industrial and cultural achievements as well as its many notable personalities.

Warner Textile Archive

The Warner Textile Archive is a UK-based collection of textiles, designs and paper records operated by Braintree District Museum Trust. It opened in 1993 and is the second largest collection of publicly-owned textiles in the UK

Museum of Power

Housed in a former Water Pumping Station, the Museum contains a fascinating collection which ranges from a working overhead machine shop to a petrol powered iron. The jewel in our crown is the ‘Lilleshall’ triple expansion steam pump now back on steam after 50 years.
