STEP BACK IN TIME: WW2 AIRFIELD WALK & TALK AT THE ESSEX GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB.
Join the Earls Colne Museum for an immersive, all-day historical experience on Saturday, September 6th, from 10 AM to 5 PM.
Discover the fascinating history of a wartime airfield, walking in the footsteps of those who served.
Your day includes:
Captivating Illustrated Talk: Delve into the airfield’s construction and its pivotal role for the USAAF “Marauder Men” (1943-1944) and the RAF (1944-1945), including its use by bombers, gliders, and even the SAS.
Explore Marks Hall: See the grounds of the historic mansion that served as a crucial HQ for both the USAAF and RAF.
Guided Airfield & Marks Hall “Then and Now” Walk: Relive the wartime years as you walk the remains of the original runway & buildings and visit memorials. This escorted walk is led by Malcolm Hobbs, whose family has owned the airfield and business park since the 1960s, offering his unique insights.
Flexible Options: If you prefer not to walk, enjoy additional video footage at The Essex or take a self-guided car tour to local memorials.
Convenient Amenities: Refreshments and lunch/teas will be available for purchase at The Essex.
