Earls Colne Heritage Museum has successfuly been awarded a £2,500 grant by Braintree District Council under the Community Gardens Scheme. Work on the garden beds has been completed by a volunteer workforce and installation of four story boards telling the history of the Atlas Works will commence soon. We have been assisted in this task by Braintree District Council, Oliver’s Plants, The Four Colnes Horticultural Society and some willing Earls Colne residents.
The Museum is celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year, having been officially opened 0n 17th March 2005.
The Earls Colne Twinning Association planted a Blue Atlas Cedar tree in 2006 to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Earls Colne’s Twinning with Nonancourt in France. This was marked with a brass plaque. The good news isthe plaque has been recovered and will be re-installed in May to mark both the 50th Anniversary of the Twinning Association and the 20th Anniversary of the Earls Colne Heritage Museum.
The Atlas Gardens will become part of a future Earls Colne Village Heritage Trail
